Learning in Islamic University of Indonesia or UII (Universitas Islam Indonesia), is conceived as a process of enlightening mind to enable the learners to contribute in improving the quality of the environment in the future, or ideally, to be the mercy of the world (rahmatan li al-‘alamiin). Guided by this vision, UII, with its valuable resources and experiences achieves excellence in delivering education. Campuses and facilities . Situated on Jalan Kaliurang, UII main campus with its milder and more pleasant climate is an excellent place to study and enjoy academic life. Three other campuses are more easily reachable from the city. Mosque, sport hall, auditoriums, hospital and student convention center are among first-rate facilities available in these campuses Teaching staff. Excellent teaching staffs in UII mostly hold master and doctorate degrees from reputable universities in Indonesia and abroad. These lecturers are academicians, researchers and professionals to establish intensive links between academic and professional worlds. Libraries and knowledge resources . Besides the Main Library serving in university level, there are more than a dozen libraries in faculties and research centers in UII. More than 250.000 books and periodicals covering  a great variety of knowledge are available in these libraries. E-books and online journals providing access to thousands periodicals and greatly extends the coverage of knowledge in these library. Brief Overview of Mechanical Engineering

Brief Overview of Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering is a branch of engineering science. It applies principles of physics for analysis, design, development, manufacture, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipments. Generally, many people consider the field of mechanical engineering is limited to the matters related to the automotive engine, thus mechanical engineering often misunderstood as an automotive engine. Actually, automotive engine is indeed only a small part of mechanical engineering which is the most wide-ranging branch of engineering. Many areas are included within the scope of mechanical engineering, such as structural analysis, kinematics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials engineering, energy conversion, thermal and fluid engineering, metrology, industrial automation, mechatronics, robotics, and manufacturing.   Department Profile Department of Mechanical Engineering FIT UII was established in 1999. The department is the fifth department within FIT UII. The legal basis for the establishment is the letter of Director General of Indonesia Higher Education no. 414/DIKTI/KEP/1999. In contrast to other mechanical engineering departments which are develop the field of general mechanical engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering FIT UII since its inception has set its concentration in manufacturing field. Manufacturing is the field of engineering science that studies the manufacturing processes of products, ranging from the design process, the production process to the quality control processes. The main focus of the educational processes, researches and community services performed by Department of Mechanical Engineering FIT-UII is the development of local uniqueness (local genius). The utilization of computer technology and information on product design and automation systems directed to the development of jewelry, crafts, and other art products. This local uniqueness is chosen by considering that the Yogyakarta and Central Java provinces are the center of the jewelry industries, handicrafts, and other art products. By selecting the concentration and local uniqueness mentioned above, Department of Mechanical Engineering FIT-UII contribute in the development and utilization of manufacturing technologies. The objective is to realize the strength of the domestic manufacturing industries in order to improve the competitiveness of the nation.
